The Residence

Classic character, oceanfront light

A charming oceanfront beach house with real character, sweeping views and the comforts that make it easy to live in.

A shiplap entry opens into rooms that are light and bright yet warm and comfortable. First-floor living looks out over the dunes, open and airy, and in the living room a beamed cathedral ceiling rises two stories, with a spiral staircase climbing to the second-floor deck. It is the kind of character that is hard to find on the shore. The house feels private and light-filled at the same time, with a relaxed California coastal ease.

11 South Surf Road is one of the few oceanfront homes in Silver Beach, a private community beside Normandy Beach, with sweeping 180° views of the Atlantic. Two private ocean-side decks, 14 by 31 feet and 12 by 27 feet, add about 700 square feet of outdoor living facing the water. The deck off the main living area has a fire table and a sitting area right off the sand, perfect for morning coffee. The second-floor deck sits beside the primary suite, at the top of the spiral staircase that climbs from the living room. With seating for ten and two lounges, it takes in sweeping ocean views, where surfers, dolphins and the occasional whale pass by. There is also a grilling deck, a walkway and a custom outdoor shower for coming in from the beach. Few houses on this stretch of the island have this much outdoor space.

It lives as well as it looks. There are four bedrooms, three full baths and four separate living spaces, so everyone can spread out. The 650-square-foot bonus room has a fully outfitted wet bar and its own full-size refrigerator, and with beverage and wine fridges in the kitchen, entertaining is effortless. A 2019 renovation brought a GE Café kitchen with an instant hot water dispenser, all three baths and a new system for one of the two main HVAC zones. In 2025 the bonus room gained its bar and a mini-split, the third HVAC zone. Motorized blinds dress the primary suite and the upstairs sitting room.

It is also an easy house to enjoy. It conveys turnkey and fully furnished, the village is a short walk away, and trains from Bay Head reach New York Penn Station. Arrive with a suitcase and be on the deck before dinner.

Why it stands out

Rare on the shore

A spot on the sand, real character and decks made for living are hard to find together, and none of them can be added later. This house has all three, with many of the big upgrades already done.

  • A place on the oceanThey aren’t making more oceanfront. This is one of the few homes in Silver Beach right on the sand, with sweeping 180° views.
  • CharacterA beamed cathedral ceiling, a shiplap entry and a spiral staircase, the kind of details that are hard to find and harder to recreate.
  • By the fire, off the sandA deck right off the main living area, with a fire table and sitting area steps from the beach.
  • A deck above the wavesUp the living room’s spiral staircase and beside the primary suite, the second-floor deck has seating for ten, two lounges and sweeping ocean views, for watching surfers, dolphins and the occasional whale.
  • Four places to gatherFour separate living spaces, including the bonus room and its wet bar, so everyone has room to spread out.
  • Furnished and readyFully furnished with designer pieces, so there is nothing to buy and nothing to wait for. The first summer starts the day you close.

Location

Leave the car in the driveway

Few oceanfront homes on the island put this much within an easy walk. Coffee, breakfast, sushi, dinner, ice cream, a butcher and market, a bakery, a Lagree studio and boutiques are a short stroll up Grand Central Avenue. Dinner on the bay at the Channel Marker, Lavallette’s boutiques and cafés, Bay Head and its train station, the Point Pleasant Beach boardwalk and Island Beach State Park are a short drive.

    The community

    Silver Beach

A private beach association with two shorelines: a guarded ocean beach out front and the bay at sunset.

The Silver Beach Association keeps two private beaches for Silver Beach homeowners: an ocean beach with lifeguards on duty every day from mid-June through Labor Day, and a bay beach with a gazebo, a playground, a picnic area and a tennis court lined for pickleball. Members receive eight beach badges each season. The ocean beach was part of the 2025 beach replenishment, and volunteers refresh the community planters through the seasons, right up to Thanksgiving and Christmas.
